WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre
Welcome to Slimbridge Wetland Centre!
A fantastic family fun day out, where we know every family member will have a blast. Slimbridge is one of 9 wetland centres across the UK, all host to an array of beautiful birds and wildlife - but it's not all about sitting in a hide and watching birds all day long (although that is equally a wonderful day spent). Slimbridge has worked hard to create a space for everyone to enjoy - Let's take a look at what is happening at the Slimbridge Wetland Centre:

The Hides
Our 13 hides look out onto the Slimbridge reserve and offer you the best spots to see anything from kingfishers to common cranes. We highly recommend you explore the Estuary Tower Hide - complete with a lift. The hide is located just a few hundred metres from the visitor centre and has magnificent views of the Severn Estuary. You can spot a breath-taking variety of wild birds, from autumn wading birds to winter ducks, geese and swans.
Living Wetland Theatre and Waterscapes Aviary
Come and meet Sprout, the cheeky pink-backed pelican and Nzuri, the curious crowned crane. Sit back and enjoy bird demonstrations, science shows, talks and short films about why wetlands are so important to our wildlife.
In the Aviary you can get up-close and personal with our resident birds, watch ducks underwater as they dive around in our duck tank and learn all about our native wetlands with our Native Wonders talk, and learn about the characters who reside within them.
Welly Boot Land
If you have a youngster (or older child - or even an adult) who loves nothing more than to have a good splash in puddles, then your day won't be complete without a play at Welly Boot Land. We recommend taking a change of clothes or even swimsuits, plus don't forget your towels! The play area has recently been developed so come and enjoy the new lily pad trampolines, climbing trees, log tunnel and basket swing. Surfaces have also been levelled making the play area more accessible.
Other play spaces are:
- Toad Hall
- Arctic Adventure
- Riverlife Playground
- Pond Dipping
- Wild Play
- Stepping Stones
Canoe Safari
A highlight of many visitors' trip to Slimbridge are the canoes - Grab a paddle and spot wildlife from the water on our fun, kilometre long, Canoe Safari trail. Sit back and relax as you look out for wildlife along the way including dragonflies, kingfishers, warblers, ducks and maybe even water voles if you’re really lucky!
- Open daily April to September and weekends in October and Half Term: 11am - 5pm (last hire 4pm).
- Canoes are £10 per boat and can seat up to three people. Suitable for children aged 3+, subject to conditions. Each hired canoe must be accompanied by at least one adult (18+).
Talks and Tours
Throughout the day at Slimbridge there will be a variety of talks happening - make sure to keep an eye out for the 'What's On' Board in the centre foyer to keep up to date with times for that day. Take a photo of the board so you don't forget!
Talks and tours you can join in:
- Amphibians
- Living Wetland Theatre
- Waterscapes Aviary
- Otters - always a highlight to see the cheeky Tilly and Sam together.
- Pollinator walks
- Scott House museum tour
Cafés
There are three locations for refreshments:
The Kingfisher Café can be found in the Wetland Centre and is open 9.30am - 4pm daily, serving up coffee, kid's lunches boxes, hot food and snacks.

Review from My Town Rocks:
As a family, we have held membership to Slimbridge Wetland Centre for over 8 years now - that's because Slimbridge is our children's no.1 place to visit - they would be there every given minute if they could.
It's been fantastic to watch Slimbridge grow over the years, including so many more fun areas to encourage families and children to join in, find out more and feel connected to nature.
By having a membership, it means we can arrive anytime, see what we want to see, and know that next time we will see something else or new.
We recommend a change or clothes and towel for EVERY visit because Welly Boot Land is a huge pull to the children and will entertain them for hours.
